Patchwork Quilting: Juneteenth Celebration | June 18th 6pm-9pm (Thursday)
Learn to construct a patchwork quilt wall hanging in this three-hour celebratory workshop honoring Juneteenth. Drawing heavy inspiration from the bold, improvisational quilting tradition of Gee's Bend, Alabama, you'll use repurposed work wear, old clothing, blankets, and fabric scraps to piece together a wall hanging that is entirely your own.
What You'll Learn You'll learn techniques including cutting and squaring repurposed fabric, improvisational piecing, and assembling and binding a finished quilt. By the end of the session, you'll have a completed wall hanging that honors the history and artistry behind one of America's most celebrated quilting traditions.
What's Included Design guidance and inspiration are provided. You'll need to bring your own repurposed materials such as old work wear, worn clothing, blankets, or fabric scraps (enough to cut at least 5-7 blocks). Thread, batting, and backing fabric will be available.
Who This Is For This workshop is for beginner and intermediate sewists who want to explore the storytelling tradition of improvisational quilting. Perfect if you're ready to create something meaningful from materials that already carry a story.
Additional Information: Some workshops may involve heat, sharp tools, or other specialty materials, so participants must be 18 or older unless the class notes otherwise.Classes have limited availability.
