Broom Weaving | October 3rd 1pm-3pm (Saturday)
Learn the traditional craft of broom making while weaving your own hand broom, sometimes called a turkey whisk. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll work with broomcorn and other natural materials to learn how fibers are gathered, shaped, and bound together to create a functional hand broom.
What You'll Learn
You’ll learn how to prepare and arrange broom fibers, shape your broom, and use traditional weaving and binding techniques to secure the fibers and create a finished handle. We’ll cover basic broom construction, shaping, and finishing techniques as you work through the process from start to finish.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a better understanding of how functional fiber tools are constructed and a handmade broom to use or display at home.
What's Included
All materials are provided, including broomcorn, binding materials, tools, and other supplies needed to complete your project. You’ll take home your finished hand broom.
Who This Is For
This workshop is for anyone interested in traditional craft, functional objects, or working with natural fibers. No previous experience is required. It’s a great introduction to broom making and the techniques used to turn natural materials into a functional handmade object.
