Youth Pottery Wheel 4 Week Series - August 20th, 27, September 3rd, 10th | 5:15-6:15pm (Thursdays)

Designed for young makers who are ready to learn the pottery wheel, this four week course takes students from a lump of clay to a collection of finished, glazed pottery. Each week builds on the last, helping students develop confidence, creativity, and strong foundational skills while having fun in the studio.

By the end of the course, students will understand every stage of the pottery process and take home handmade pieces they can be proud of.

What You'll Learn

Week One: Meet the Wheel

Students will learn how to prepare clay by wedging, get comfortable using the pottery wheel, practice centering, and create their first cylinder forms. This week, each student will practice making their own tumbler cups while learning the basics of wheel throwing.

Week Two: Making Bowls

This week focuses on bowl forms. Students will learn how to open their clay, shape curved walls, and understand how bowls are formed differently than cups. They'll continue building confidence while working to create functional bowls.

Week Three: Finishing Your Pieces

Students will discover how potters transform rough pieces into finished forms through trimming. They'll learn how to safely trim the bottoms of their dried pottery, create a foot ring, refine the shape, and prepare each piece for glazing.

Week Four: Color and Glazing

The final class is all about bringing each piece to life. Students will learn what glaze is, how it changes in the kiln, and how to apply color and finish to their pottery. We'll explore simple design choices while preparing every piece for its final firing.

What's Included

All clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings are included in the cost of the class. Students will receive instruction throughout every step of the process and leave having created several finished pottery pieces. Once the final firing is complete, families will be notified when artwork is ready for pickup.

Who This Is For

This class is perfect for youth who enjoy working with their hands, love being creative, or are curious about learning the pottery wheel. No previous pottery experience is necessary. Whether your child is trying ceramics for the first time or looking to build on existing skills, this course provides a fun and structured introduction to wheel throwing.

What to Wear

Please wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes that can get a little messy. Aprons are provided, but clay and water are all part of the creative process!
