Learn how to push the limits of what you can create on the pottery wheel by building larger vessels in separate sections. In this intermediate pottery class, you'll throw multiple pieces on the wheel and learn how to combine them into a larger, stacked form.

Rather than trying to throw one large vessel all at once, you'll learn how to break a larger form into manageable sections, allowing you to work with more clay while maintaining control over your shape and proportions.

What You'll Learn

You'll practice techniques for throwing larger forms, including centering larger amounts of clay, pulling consistent walls, and creating pieces with enough structure to be stacked and joined. You'll also learn how to determine when individual sections are ready to combine, how to join them securely, and how to refine the transitions between sections.

Your instructor will demonstrate each technique and provide guidance throughout the process as you develop your own stacked vessel.

What's Included

All clay, tools, and wheel time are included.

What's Next?

After your class, your piece will need to slowly dry before it can be fired for the first time. This process typically takes a minimum of 3–4 weeks.

This class does not include glaze firing.

Who This Is For

This class is designed for intermediate potters who already have experience working on the wheel. You should be comfortable with the basic throwing process, including centering, opening, and pulling walls. This is not a beginner wheel class.

Whether you're looking to challenge yourself with larger forms, improve your throwing technique, or explore a new approach to vessel construction, this class will help you build the skills to work bigger on the wheel.

What to Wear

Wear clothing and shoes you're comfortable getting clay and water on. Aprons are provided, but clay has a way of finding everything anyway.
